Minimise CapEx and maximise investment return with the revolutionary smart universal marshalling solution, SUM5. MTL SUM5 combines five functions in one modular design enabling one standard cabinet to deliver the lowest lifetime costs and lowest installed cost while saving valuable space in a control room.
MTL SUM5 offers a single cabinet design, with ‘plug and play’ configurable modules for the five key marshalling functions. This eliminates the need for intricate wiring to interconnect the components, ultimately improving uptime and reducing the cost of wiring, installation and maintenance.
MTL SUM5’s modular design simplifies marshalling and provides increased flexibility throughout the product lifetime. Loop disconnect is integrated in every terminal, so loops can be easily isolated, which together with the modular design, simplifies maintenance and keeps associated costs to a minimum.
The MTL4851/52 HART connection system is the system of choice for unrivalled flexibility. Based on 16 channel modularity the system can be easiliy expanded to cover up to 7936 HART devices on one network. The flexibility of the MTL4851/52 and its ability to communicate with any of the Instrument Management Software (IMS) packages on the market today allows us to offer the optimum solution for any application - both general purpose and Intrinsically Safe.
The HART multiplexer provides the brains of the system and consists of a combination of two modules, the MTL4851 - HART communications module and MTL4852 - HART interface module. They provide the HART data interface between smart devices in the field and HART instrument management software running on a PC. The modules, which mount on to a range of HART backplanes, connect to the field devices via either HART connection units or IS backplanes depending on the application.
For applications where communication paths with several field devices need to be established and maintained in parallel, the MTL4854 HART® multiplexer is the ideal product to use. This is a module that has the same 32 channel capacity as the MTL4850 for connection to field devices but now has four HART modems rather than just one.
Essentially this gives 4 x 8 channel multiplexers in one compact housing, enabling simultaneous communication with several field devices through one serial link. One particular use for this is during partial-stroke testing of valve positioners, where the ability to maintain access to other connected devices while the multiplexer would otherwise be locked enables plant monitoring to continue.
The MTL4850 Hart Multiplexer is now SIL3 rated for connection to instrument loops performing safety functions up to and including Safety Integrity Level SIL3. The international standard IEC 61508:2010 provides guidelines to achieving an adequate Safety Integrity Level (SIL) for systems, sub-systems and components. Functional Safety management requirements are found in IEC61508 which states that suppliers and subcontractors shall demonstrate functional safety management.
We conform to the requirements of the international standard IEC 61508:2010 for functional safety by being certified as a Functional Safety Management company.
The MTL7700 range follows closely in the footsteps of the MTL700 but as a DIN rail mounting barrier providing quick and easy installation without the need for special hardware. Removable terminals are used for ease of installation, maintenance and for providing a loop disconnect by simply unplugging the terminals from the side of the module. Wire entry is also angled to assist wiring within limited space enclosures. MTL7700 barriers clamp simply and securely onto standard T-section DIN rail, simultaneously making a reliable IS earth connection.
Improving upon the widely adopted, enormously successful, “industry standard” MTL4000 range was a big challenge but the innovative MTL4500 range includes several new features for backplane mounting isolating interfaces. This new family easily integrates with the I/O equipment of all major instrumentation and DCS suppliers in the same secure manner as its predecessor.
The MTL1000 range of signal conditioning isolators and accessories are designed to help protect field instruments and control systems to provide safe, reliable and high-quality process communications. This cost-effective solution offers significant savings with its embedded DIN-rail mounted power-bus and compact design. The optional MTL1991 power-bus feed and alarm module offers added power security with the application of dual power feeds with individual supply monitoring. Our new range of MTL13xx trip amplifiers now provide signal conditioning and 2 trip alarms for voltage, current, RTD, thermocouple and potentiometer inputs.
Building on the base of the MTL4500 range, MTL4600 range offers a high level of signal isolation for installations where multiple loops on a common connection are not desirable. Signal isolation provides excellent protection against surges, common faults and noisy environments. It also eliminates the risk of earth loops between different areas of the plant, which, if not isolated, can cause significant errors or failures under fault conditions. MTL4600 isolators are fully compatible with all existing backplanes used with the MTL4500 range and many control systems. The form factor and signal types offer the user a common approach for both IS and non-IS signals.
The 9400 product range provides cost-effective Intrinsically Safe (IS) Ethernet equipment that can be installed and maintained easily in hazardous areas.
The intrinsically safe hazardous area certification permits the components to be mounted in a Zone 1 hazardous area with connectivity into Zone 0 and the associated apparatus certification of the 9468-ET IS Ethernet isolator and 9491-PS IS power supply allow this equipment to be mounted in a Zone 2 hazardous area and connected to intrinsically safe equipment in a Zone 0 or 1 hazardous area.
The 949x-PS range of MTL intrinsically safe (IS) isolated power supplies are ideal for providing power to instrumentation in hazardous process areas. They offer a wide range of different IS output voltages, ranging from 4.8V - 17.7V, offering flexibility of options to best suit a variety of applications. The 9492-PS-PLUS is the preferred method for supplying the 946x-ET range of MTL IS Ethernet devices to provide direct power or IS Power over Ethernet (PoExTM), a method which allows a single cable to provide both the data connection and electrical power to devices, in turn, reducing installation costs.
MTL830C multiplexer with Modbus® outputs provide a cost-effective alternative to single-loop isolation. The cost of installed wiring is reduced by up to 50% by communicating the input of multiple hazardous-area sensors over a single twisted pair data highway. Further savings are achieved by reducing the number of inputs to the host, cabinet space and weight. A multiplexer transmitter, mounted in the hazardous area, caters for thermocouple, RTD and mV analogue inputs. A compatible safe-area receiver provides serial Modbus® outputs for feeding to host PLC, PC or DCS controllers.
We supply the widest range of fieldbus displays from 8 variable to cost effective single variable version, field and panel mount variants, safe and hazardous area version as well as FOUNDATION fieldbus™ H1 and Profibus PA versions. All versions are bus powered to simplify installation.
The F809F-Plus Fieldbus Diagnostics Module monitors the performance of eight fieldbus segments, providing information on the health of the network physical layer. As a Foundation Fieldbus™ device the F809F-Plus easily integrates with the chosen host control system via a fieldbus segment, allowing the network status and measured parameters to be displayed in the control system’s instrument management software.
The F809F-Plus builds on the success of the F809F, the industry’s first fieldbus-connected diagnostic module. New features of the Plus version include superior immunity to noise on the ‘communicating’ segment, enhanced short-to-shield detection, and extended power supply voltage measurement range for compatibility with new power supply types. It may be used as a direct replacement for F809F in existing installations.
Fieldbus test instruments assist with the maintenance and fault-finding of fieldbus installations. Compact in size and powered either by batteries or from the fieldbus itself, this set of testers will complement every maintenance engineers toolbox.
The Fieldbus Monitor, FBT-6, is used to examine the operation of a live Foundation™ fieldbus network without interfering with its operation. The FBT-6-PA Profibus PA Diagnostic Monitor can be used to examine the operation of a live Profibus-PA segment without interfering with its operation. These monitors are intended for maintenance personnel to verify network operation or to troubleshoot an errant network. Data collected can be saved into the FBT-6 and saved as a Microsoft® Excel formated report that can be used to document commissioning or periodic monitoring.
A Megablock™ is a DIN-rail mounted passive hub designed for use in FOUNDATION™ fieldbus H1 and Profibus PA networks. The choice of rising cage clamp screw or spring clamp terminals simplifies installation and maintenance.
Megablocks minimize hand wiring and allow individual devices to be added to and removed from the segment without disrupting network communication. The SpurGuard™ option provides short circuit protection for the segment.
Hazardous area approvals permit installation in a variety of configurations in Zone 1 or 2 and Division 1 or 2. Within Zone 2 or Division 2, Megablocks may be installed as part of non-sparking (non-arcing) or energy-limited (non-incendive) circuits.
Additionally, the F300 Megablock is designed for live connection and disconnection of fieldbus spurs without a gas clearance certificate in Zone 2 and Division 2 hazardous areas when used with Ex ic and non-incendive certified field devices.
AS-i Megablocks are DIN-rail mounted passive hubs for the AS-i network. They connect several AS-i devices to the network trunk cable and provide short circuit protection to the segment. The AS–i Megablock itself does not contain an AS–i chip or communicate over the AS–i network, so it consumes no network communication resources (bandwidth, slave addresses, etc.). They are used to interconnect AS–i master and slave devices that do contain AS–i chips.
Megablocks minimize hand wiring and allow individual devices to be added to and removed from the segment without disrupting network communication. The SpurGuard™ option provides short circuit protection for the segment.
MTL Process Junction Boxes are designed for mounting fieldbus wiring components and TI multiplexers. They offer plenty of space for termination and wiring, making it easy to install and maintain the fieldbus system.
Available in carbon loaded, glass-reinforced polyester (FCS85xx series) or 316 stainless steel (FCS95xx series) and rated IP66, they provide the highest levels of corrosion resistance for the harshest process environments.
Pre-drilled for glanding, they can also be supplied with stainless steel, nickel-plated brass or plastic glands fitted, as required. They also include an earthing stud and a breather plug. The Process JBs are suitable for Zone 2 and Zone 1 intrinsically safe applications.
The 9372-FB Redundant Fieldbus Barriers are field-mounted wiring hubs that create up to six intrinsically safe spur connections from a high-energy trunk, for connection to suitably certified Foundation™ fieldbus H1 instruments. They may be installed in Zone 1 (gas) or Zone 21 (dust) hazardous areas, with the trunk wiring implemented using suitably protected cable and increased safety (Ex e) connection facilities.
The 937x-FB2 Fieldbus Barrier Series are field-mounted wiring hubs that creates six or twelve intrinsically safe spur connections from a high-energy trunk, for connection to suitably certified Foundation™ fieldbus H1 instruments. Capable of supporting heavily loaded fieldbus segments and long trunk cable lengths, the Fieldbus Barrier may be installed in Zone 1 (gas) or Zone 21 (dust) hazardous areas, with the trunk wiring implemented using suitably protected cable and increased safety (Ex e) connection facilities.
The 9373-FB3-Px-SS is a third-generation product, in a successful range of Eaton Fieldbus Barrier Systems. The field-mounted enclosure contains a barrier that receives power and Foundation™ fieldbus H1 communications via a non-intrinsically safe trunk and converts this to a number of galvanically isolated, intrinsically safe, spur connections.
In a FISCO fieldbus network, the entire field circuit – including the trunk and all spurs - is intrinsically safe. The fieldbus power supply includes an intrinsic safety barrier, and provides conditioned power to the fieldbus segment in the hazardous area. The fieldbus instruments together with the power supply and any associated wiring components, must be certified as intrinsic safety apparatus and must comply with FISCO requirements. The field instruments may be located in a Zone 0 or 1, IIC or IIB hazardous area, depending on the certification of the individual components.
FISCO enjoys the benefits of any intrinsically safe instrumentation circuit. These advantages include the ability to live-work in the hazardous area without “gas clearance”, for example to add or remove a fieldbus instrument while the bus is energised in the presence of a flammable atmosphere. This is critical for Foundation fieldbus installations because field instruments need to be connected to a live network in order to establish communication with the host control system.
For easy integration with DCS Fieldbus Interface Modules (FIMs), we can supply Termination Boards that use the DCS client system interconnect cables. These support up to four power supplies and have built-in segment terminators.
Since their introduction in 2002, the MTL simplex FISCO power supplies and wiring components have become the definitive solution for intrinsically safe fieldbus, and have been chosen by influential end users to protect major hazardous area networks worldwide. Plant operators have been able to take advantage of the benefits of a fully live-workable field network without the onerous restrictions on segment loading and maximum cable length that were imposed by earlier IS techniques. The existing product portfolio has established our credentials as technical leader for intrinsically safe fieldbus.
With the introduction of the 910x series of power supplies, we are the first to offer true redundancy for the FISCO concept, which will provide the highest level of reliability for critical hazardous area applications.
The F101, F102 and F104 fieldbus power supplies each provide power for a single FOUNDATION fieldbus™ H1 segment. Galvanic isolation, power conditioning and segment termination are incorporated. The F10x Series modules should be adopted for all new installations requiring single-segment, non-redundant power in small to medium scale applications such as batch processing.
The NEW 9180 range should be selected for all new applications. Its unique N+1 redundancy approach provides flexibility to the system designer meeting the initial demands of the project with 2 power supply modules/segment, whilst having the ability to add a third power supply later to meet expansion requirements. The advantage to the operator is typically a 25% saving in initial capital cost compared to a conventional, 1+1 redundant architecture. High system availability is achieved with the use of passive components for power conditioning, galvanic isolation and power regulation delivering redundant fieldbus power at up to 28V, 500mA/segment. The product range also includes power supply modules that can be used to provide power for segments with Ex ic spurs, to be used in conjunction with MTL F300 range of Megablock device couplers and F30 Ex ic adaptor.
The F11 is the next generation of the popular power hub. Ideal for fieldbus device or system demonstrations, bench-top calibrations and test setups. The power hub is a mini fieldbus segment in a box - just add devices.
A typical use for the power hub is to configure, precommission, test or calibrate Fieldbus devices.
If an Entity certified* field device needs to be added to a segment powered by a FISCO power supply, then a 9321-SC Entity spur connector can be used with a 9121-IS power supply and a 9323-SC Entity spur connector can be used with a 9122-IS power supply.
When connected between the segment and the device, it limits the power and with the 9323-SC the current, making the spur compatible with the safety description (24V, 250mA and 1.2W) of an Entity certified device.
If field devices are to be mounted in Zone 0, or have an electrical connection into Zone 0, then a 9322-SC spur connector can be used. This is connected in the spur to provide EEx ia current limiting.
The 9322-SC is designed to work with the 9121-IS IIC or 9122-IS IIB FISCO power supplies. This can only convert an ‘ib’ source to an ‘ia’ when the source voltage is clamped to ‘ia’ as with the 9121-IS and 9122-IS power supplies.
Typically, one F30 adaptor is used with each fieldbus segment, and is installed with the Megablock in the field enclosure. Power to the Ex ic segments is provided by 9192-FP modules installed on the 9180 series power supply carriers. When connected to suitably certified fieldbus instruments in Zone 2 hazardous areas, the spurs may be live-worked in accordance with normal intrinsic safety procedures. This allows field devices to be connected to the network while it is energised in the hazardous area. Unlike competing products in which the trunk must be treated as a ‘partial’ intrinsic safety circuit, our solution provides clear separation between the non-arcing (Ex nA) trunk and the intrinsically safe (Ex ic) spurs, thereby avoiding complex rules for wiring in the marshalling cabinet. Further, it is compatible with all host H1 control systems that comply with basic electrical safety standards, avoiding ambiguous rules for host system approvals.
The intrinsically safe hazardous area certification permits the components to be mounted in a Zone 1 hazardous area with connectivity into Zone 0 and the associated apparatus certification of the 9468-ET IS Ethernet isolator and 9492-PS-PLUS power supply allow this equipment to be mounted in a Zone 1 hazardous area and connected to intrinsically safe equipment in a Zone 0 hazardous area.
In Process Automation it is also preferable to use a single cable to provide both power and communications to the end device. The 9470-ET/ETG range can deliver Intrinsically Safe Power over Ethernet (PoEx™) with a single Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable, allowing live connection and disconnection of the end device in Zone 0 and 1 hazardous areas.
This module allows existing Intrinsically Safe equipment with an RS485/RS422 or RS232/TTL port to connect to Ethernet via either Wi-Fi (WLAN) or a Cat5/6 cable connection into an IS Ethernet Network (LAN).
The unique 9474-ET/ETG IS interface provides connectivity between non-IS and IS Ethernet networks.
The MTL BxLAN-OEM interface allows Instrumentation/OEMs to develop hazardous area certified Ethernet devices to connect to an IS Ethernet network.
The MTL ExLAN is a simple and compact Intrinsically Safe (IS) 10/100Mbps Ethernet Interface intended to simplify OEM product design and certification.
The MTL ExLAN module can be integrated into your IS instrumentation design to power and communicate with the device over an IS Ethernet network. As well as providing the essential LAN interface, the module voltage clamps the equipment’s main supply rail together to ensure the Ethernet signals generated are limited to low intrinsically safe levels. It is fully compatible with PoExTM technology and our 9400 MTL IS Ethernet range.
MTL RugiCAM-IP high definition (HD) IS Ethernet network camera enable plant managers across process industries worldwide to ensure they are operating safely in hazardous zone 1 and zone 2 areas.
The first of its kind for the hazardous area market, the MTL RugiCAM-IP camera monitors and provides enhanced visual safety to control and automation systems installed on site, and provides additional security and visibility to specific hazardous locations in plants so safe operation can be maintained.
It is lightweight, connecting directly to compatible IS Ethernet systems up to 100 metres via a Cat5e cable or WiFi, and it allows for quick and easy maintenance, therefore enabling plants to save time and associated costs.
Our intrinsically safe (I.S.) wireless solutions provide completely safe wireless operation in hazardous areas. Products are live workable, meaning that in many situations a gas clearance certificate is not required to work on the equipment and can reduce costs when performing maintenance, installation, testing or replacing devices. Our hazardous area access point provides 802.11a/b/g connectivity, a standard which is widely compatible with end devices and can be used for transferring Ethernet data over the air. Features such as I.S. power over Ethernet (PoEx), WDS repeaters and encryption ensure secure transfer of data with the ability to deploy wireless systems over a wide area.
The MTL Tofino™ security solution is a combined solution consisting of the 9202-ETS MTL Tofino security appliance hardware, MTL Tofino Configurator (TC) and any additional MTL Loadable Security Modules (LSMs) if required, delivering three levels of protection. This solution requires zero configuration before installation - at a time convenient to project execution, simple rules are set delivering an easy and flexible solution that provides the ultimate protection for your process systems. The software based modular design allows an additional layer of security to be added enforcing deep packet inspection on certain Industrial Control System (ICS) protocols. Intuitive configuration and management software allows users to assign global, talker and special rules for specific network segments.
